While Terroll’s routine is unique to him, we have a few tips that you can use to maintain and keep your beard tame on a daily basis.

Beard care for black men is quite different from white men and guys from other races.

Black men have curlier hair and it is subject to dryness and requires special attention, especially if you are growing it out or if it’s at a length you choose to maintain.

1. Wash your beard with a natural soap

The best shampoo for your beard will be something that is sulfate-free so that you can avoid buildup on your strands and chemicals around your mouth. Sulfate-free shampoos will also help you to avoid stripping the hair of its natural oils.

If you need help with figuring out the best shampoo, check out this list, we have a few to choose from.

2. Use a beard oil to condition your beard

To keep your beard soft and shiny, use a beard oil to condition and keep it from getting dull. Beard oils are also great for your skin, ensuring that you keep the follicles healthy and the skin moisturized.

If you need a beard oil, we recommend this one.

3. Trim your beard

Even though you may be on a growth journey, it is important that you trim your beard so that you can avoid split and straggly ends.

You can use sharp scissors to maintain your beard shape or you can use trimmers if that is what you have on hand. Trimmers can cause split ends, so be careful how often you use one.

Try to trim your beard every few weeks to keep it looking healthy and neat. If you need more tips on how to grow your beard, click here.
